Happy Monday and welcome to our second Mindful Monday session.
This week we are going to be focusing less on the physical body and more on our inner beings.
This week we invite you to cultivate your own personal mantra. What is a mantra you ask? For the sake of this exercise and our meditation journey, a mantra is a statement or slogan that you’ll repeat while breathing which will help you concentrate inwardly and connect deeper in your meditation.
Your mantra can be anything that you’d like. It can be one word, or a couple, but shorter is better. You can even have multiple mantras that you can interchange depending on the situation and what you’re experiencing with your mental well-being at any given moment.
For me personally, my go-to personal mantra is “I trust me”. It reminds me that ultimately, I am in control. That I can calm myself, that I can endure all things. Make your mantra personal to you and your journey. Some examples to build from could be:
- Breathe, believe, be
- I can. I will.
- Everything is possible
Once you have your personal mantra, we invite you to revisit our first mindful Monday breathing exercise and while holding your breath, instead of counting to 5, repeat your mantra with each held breath. You can repeat it verbally or merely in your mind. Focus on the inhale followed by focusing on the meaning of the mantra and the exhale. Repeat until you feel a sense of calmness and sense of self.
